Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Get the best value:
- Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in the Hilton Head area. Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Many management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Finding the perfect rental home in the Hilton Head area:
- Select your dates and maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Palmetto Dunes 3 bedroom home with a pool and just a short walk to the ocean! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking pages. If not, call the property owner before booking your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- If your family is bringing pets, search for a pet-friendly property. Request information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Tips for a fantastic stay:
- Add the host's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
- To make certain that no damages are attributed to your stay, note any problem areas during arrival. text the property manager right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be respectful. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Re-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property a final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did you have a fantastic time? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
