Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation rental experience:

Getting the best rental value:

  • In the Hilton Head area, The sooner your group can book, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal SC. To get the best value, try shifting your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Filter your rental search:

  • Begin by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Newly remodeled dog-friendly island sanctuary with pool, deck, & lagoon view has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before reserving your home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental

During your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few issues.
  • Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • At Check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a fantastic time? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
