Tips and Tricks to get the optimal Hilton Head vacation property experience:

Sticking to a budget:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Reserve your Hilton Head vacation in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
  • In the Hilton Head area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Booking your rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Often, property management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines which often include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select a group lead, choose your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Home with private pool, hot tub, close to Harbour Town has 5 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before booking the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
  • During arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Upon check-out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a wonderful time? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
