Hilton Head rental home tips and tricks:

Sticking to your spending plan:

  • Booking your Hilton Head vacation rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked very early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have discounts for local accommodations and attractions.

Choosing and booking the rightrental:

  • To start, have your group decide on date ranges and a max budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group needs. 16 Singleton Shores, Ocean Views, Pool, Elevator, Free Golf has 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before reserving your rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds. You'll need to establish what is right for your group.
  • If there's a particular Hilton Head destination you simply love, keep an eye out for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge additional pet fees.

More considerations:

  • Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • During arrival, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Leave a review! Property owners rely on good feedback to drive future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
