Tips for getting the best Hilton Head vacation home experience:

Get the most from your rental home budget:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. Book your Hilton Head rental home in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property managers usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have discounts for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Selecting the best vacation home in the Hilton Head area:

  • First, have your group decide on trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Large Oceanfront Home with Private Pool and Spa Complex! has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what is right for your trip.
  • Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Tips to have a terrific stay:

  • Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your visit, make a record of any problem areas during arrival. message the property manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at departure. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good ratings to drive future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
