Tips for getting the best vacation property experience:

When to book a Hilton Head rental & When to go:

  • To find the largest rental home within budget, we strongly suggest booking in Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some owners offer promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which will include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to pick the best rental home in Hilton Head:

  • Start by choosing vacation dates and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. New to the Rental Market! has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property manager before you book the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what is optimal for your trip.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or may be applied to your invoice.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
  • Upon check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a great vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
