Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Finding your best deal:

  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
  • Summer is the most expensive season in coastal SC. To book the most suitable rental within budget, we recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for local shops and restaurants.

Make a plan and pick your prefect Hilton Head rental:

  • To start, have your group commit to a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Palatial Home Just a Short Walk to the Beach! has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rental home search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is generally available on booking pages. Otherwise, call the host before you book the home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what is suitable for your group.
  • If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head attraction you simply love, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.

Additional considerations:

  • Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of problems.
  • Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • At Check-in, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to propel new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
