Hilton Head rental property booking tips and tricks:

When to go & When to book:

  • Summer time is high season in the Hilton Head area. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides contain discounts for local tours, shops, and attractions.

How to select the best vacation home in the Hilton Head area:

  • Choose vacation dates and budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Palatial Home Just a Short Walk to the Beach! has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property manager before reserving the home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is right for your vacation.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head destination you long to visit, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or costs applied to your invoice.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Add the owner's phone number to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Upon arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your rental home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
