Our top Hilton Head vacation rental home tips and tricks:
Finding your best deal:
- Summertime is high season in Hilton Head. Booking your vacation rental in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties.
- In the Hilton Head area, The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your rental six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guides contain coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Select your vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Spacious, Renovated House with Private Spa and Private Pool has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before booking the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation family.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly rental. Request information on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
More considerations for your visit:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Upon arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent many concerns.
- Respect your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
