Tricks and tips to get the optimal Hilton Head vacation home experience:
How to get the best value:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To get the best value, consider changing your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Some property managers offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Planning, selecting, and booking your Hilton Head vacation home:
- Start by selecting a vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Large Private Home with Private Pool and Spa! has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. If not, reach out to the host before you reserve the rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what configuration is right for your group.
- If your group is traveling with pets, filter your search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Make sure to ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a specific Hilton Head destination you long to visit, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
More tips for your visit:
- Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect your property!
- During arrival, record any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a excellent stay? Most rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
