Tricks and tips for getting the best Hilton Head vacation rental experience:
Sticking to your rental home budget:
- June, July, and August are high season in Hilton Head. To find the best value, try changing your family's Hilton Head vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
- In the Hilton Head area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Booking your rental property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Narrow your rental Search:
- To start, have your family select date ranges and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Modern condo with spectacular view of pool, 7 courts for tennis & pickleball has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking pages. If not, email or call the property manager before reserving your home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or applied to your agreement.
Advice for your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
- Make a record of any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are assessed.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of issues.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a great resource to find the best local spots.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to stimulate new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
