Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Hilton Head vacation rental experience:
When to go & When to reserve a Hilton Head rental home:
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. Book your Hilton Head rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Some hosts offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guides that include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your Search:
- Begin by selecting your trip dates and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration you need. New to Island Getaway - enjoy sunny pool at Sea Pines beach home 47 Woodbine has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property management company before you book the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
- Some rentals allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
- If there's a certain Hilton Head attraction you crave, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
Additional considerations:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- During check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, remember to take video of the property to record its condition.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to stimulate future reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
