Rental property booking tips and tricks:
Sticking to a budget:
- The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Reserving a rental home in the Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Property management companies often offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines that include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your Search:
- First and foremost, have your group select a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. MINUTES TO THE BEACH! Wonderful Sea Pines Home! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible online. If they are not listed, email the property manager before you book your rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your group.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Additional considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call prevents quite a few problems.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- During arrival, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a excellent vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
