Tips to get the best vacation home experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are high season in the Hilton Head area. Booking in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Property management companies typically offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guides which often include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Select a group lead, choose your dates, and select a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Quiet, professionally decorated, 1st floor beachfront getaway, 70 steps to beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available online. If not, email the property manager before reserving the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what is optimal for your vacation group.
  • If there's an individual Hilton Head destination you crave, search for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.

Tips to have a terrific stay:

  • Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • Note any issues with the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if damages are assessed.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a excellent vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
