Strategies for getting the best Hilton Head vacation rental experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are high season in Hilton Head. Booking your Hilton Head vacation rental in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer special rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Many rental management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guides which often include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Selecting the perfect rental home in the Hilton Head area:

  • Begin by choosing the best vacation week and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Quiet, professionally decorated, 1st floor beachfront getaway, 70 steps to beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible online. If not, email the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly rental. Request details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.
  • If there's a certain Hilton Head beach you are enamored with, look for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.

Additional considerations:

  • Add the host's contact information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent many problems.
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • At Check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific source for finding the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • When it's time to leave, complete a final walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
