Tips and Tricks for getting the best Hilton Head vacation property experience:

Sticking to your spending budget:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in Hilton Head. To find the best value, try shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
  • In the Hilton Head area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
  • Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guides which often include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • To start, have your family decide on date ranges and a budget.
  • Pools, Playground, Tennis, Hot Tub & Steps to Beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking websites. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before you book the rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head destination you love, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
  • If your group is bringing pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

During your stay:

  • Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Record any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Respect the neighborhood. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all of your things. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your group have a fantastic time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
