Strategies to get the perfect Hilton Head vacation home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Summer months are the most expensive season in Hilton Head. To find the best value, consider changing your family's Hilton Head vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- In the Hilton Head area, The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your rental home six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Filter your rental search:
- Select your vacation week and maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Large Three Bedroom and Three Bathroom Villa Close to the Pool! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking pages. If not, email the property management company before booking the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is right for your vacation family.
- Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you must book a pet-friendly property. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers charge additional pet fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
- At Check-in, note any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be respectful. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not forget anything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on good feedback to compel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
