Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation rental experience:
Finding the best rental value:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the largest rental within your budget, we suggest booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular Hilton Head attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain discounts for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Select vacation dates and max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Lovely single level Palmetto Dunes home with a pool and lagoon views! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible online. If they are not listed, email or call the property owner before you reserve the property. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
- If your family is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Some things to know before you go:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Make a record of any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if a dispute is filed.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed everything at departure. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to propel future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
