Tips for getting the perfect Hilton Head rental home experience:

When to visit & When to reserve a rental home:

  • In the Hilton Head area, The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • June, July, and August are high season in the Hilton Head area. To find the best value, consider shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer pleasant temperatures, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Some hosts offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family.
  • Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines have discounts for local tours and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Start by choosing your trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and the bed configuration your group requires. North Forest Beach home with a private pool and four primary suites has 7 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible online. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before you reserve the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what is right for your vacation group.
  • If your group is bringing pets, search for a property that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

During your stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Put the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Lock your vacation home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
  • To make sure no damages are linked to your visit, record any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the property manager immediately to relay any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Be respectful. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to drive new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
