Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in the Hilton Head area. Book your Hilton Head vacation in Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Some property management companies offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Booking websites usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

  • Upon arrival, make note of any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are often an incredible resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
