Our top Hilton Head vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
Sticking to a rental budget:
- To get the best value, change your family's Hilton Head vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guides which include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to select the best rental in the Hilton Head area:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. 3rd Floor Ocean View Hilton Head Resort Condo! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property manager before you book your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Visiting for a single attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or costs may be applied to your agreement.
During your stay:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon check in. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to report any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
