How to find the best Hilton Head rental experience:

Get the most from your rental home budget:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer time is high season in Hilton Head. Reserve your Hilton Head rental home in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites usually offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain discounts for nearby tours and attractions.

Filter your search:

  • Select your vacation dates and spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Bright and cozy condo near the beach with a pool, AC, & a private washer/dryer has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking pages. If not, call the property management company before you book the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or costs may be applied to your invoice.
  • Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

Some things to know before you go:

  • We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many problems.
  • Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Document any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Upon check-out, take a walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on great feedback to drive new reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
