Strategies for getting the best Hilton Head vacation home experience:
Find your perfect rental:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserve your Hilton Head rental home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Often, rental management companies supply Hilton Head area visitors guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Choosing and booking the perfect Hilton Head vacation home:
- Choose a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. 3rd-floor villa with pools, tennis & pickleball - walk to beach & Coligny Plaza has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking pages. If they are not listed, email or call the property management company before reserving your rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what bed configuration is right for your vacation.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.
- If there's a specific Hilton Head destination you are crazy about, search for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
More considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental while you're out. Keep your property safe!
- Make a record of any issues with the property upon arrival, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on good ratings to propel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
