Tips to get the perfect Hilton Head rental home experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Summer months are high season in Hilton Head. To get the best value, consider shifting your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group before you book.
  • Property managers frequently offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby shops and restaurants.

Finding the best rental in Hilton Head:

  • Select vacation dates and spending budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Royal Dunes Resort, Hilton Head Island\/3 Bedroom\/3 Bathroom Hidden Gem!? has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you reserve the rental. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
  • If there's a certain Hilton Head beach you love, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Get information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your stay:

  • Add the owner's information to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Note any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few problems.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
  • When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a fantastic stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
