Tricks and tips to get the best Hilton Head vacation rental experience:

Money saving strategies:

  • Book your rental in Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines contain deals for local accommodations and attractions.

Choosing and booking your prefectrental home:

  • Begin by selecting your the best vacation week and a max budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Large Three Bedroom Villa Steps from the Pool! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible online. Otherwise, contact the property management company before you reserve your rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head beach you simply love, browse rentals that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Add the property manager's information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if a dispute arises.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a great source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a great stay? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
