Our top Hilton Head rental home booking tips and tricks:
When to visit Hilton Head & When to reserve a Hilton Head rental home:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To book the best rental within your budget, we recommend booking in Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some hosts offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Choosing and booking the perfectvacation home:
- Begin by selecting your the best vacation week and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Large Three Bedroom Villa Steps from the Pool! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the host before booking your rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is best for your group.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or may be applied to your contract.
- If there's an individual Hilton Head attraction you are crazy about, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
More considerations:
- Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
- To make sure damages aren't linked to your family's visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon check in. Get in touch with the property manager right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your peace. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't forget anything. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great stay? Many rental managers make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
