Getting the best vacation property experience:

Sticking to your spending budget:

  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • To get the best vacation home within budget, we suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Filter your search:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Private Home with Enclosed Pool Very Close to the Beach! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available online. If not, call the host before booking the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your trip.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about pet restrictions before booking.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking

More considerations:

  • Put the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let crooks spoil your holiday.
  • At Check-in, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a great vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
