Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation rental experience:

Get the most from your spending budget:

  • Summer time is high season in the Hilton Head area. To find the best vacation home within your budget, we recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guides which often include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

How to choose the best vacation rental in the Hilton Head area:

  • Select a group lead, choose your vacation dates, and choose a budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Beautiful Three Bedroom Villa with Many Updates! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. Otherwise, contact the property manager before booking the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Are you looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges may be applied to your agreement.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To ensure that damages are not attributed to your visit, inspect the rental for any problem areas during check in. Speak to the host immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect your property!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
