Our top Hilton Head vacation rental tips and tricks:

Money saving strategies:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season in Hilton Head. To book the best rental within your budget, we suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines have discounts for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Finding the best vacation home:

  • Choose a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Newly updated condo with golf views, firepit, pool, & bikes - smart TVs, W\/D, AC has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally available on booking pages. If not, reach out to the host before reserving the property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what configuration is suitable for your family.
  • Some rentals allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.

Advice for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of concerns.
  • Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
  • Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an incredible source for finding the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to compel future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
