Tricks and tips to get the best vacation rental experience:

Find your best deal:

  • Summer time is high season in Hilton Head. To book the largest vacation home within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Often, rental management companies supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines that include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Narrow your Search:

  • Start by selecting your vacation dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Oceanfront villa with partial ocean views, shared pool & beach access has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often accessible online. If not, reach out to the property owner before you reserve your home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish which bed configuration is right for your trip.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head attraction you are crazy about, keep an eye out for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Get information on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

Know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
  • Document any damages to the property at check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a terrific resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a wonderful stay? Most rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
