Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation home experience:

Sticking to a budget:

  • Reserve your rental property in the Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a discount.
  • Property management companies typically offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Choosing and booking yourrental home:

  • Choose a group leader, select your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Spacious Dog-Friendly Waterfront Getaway w/ Kayaks, Ping-Pong Table, Hot Tub has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you reserve the home. • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Get specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Often, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
  • To ensure that damages are not linked to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. message the property manager immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
  • Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent feedback to inspire future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your feedback find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
