Our top Vacation rental home tips:
When to reserve a Hilton Head rental & When to go:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To find the largest rental home within your budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Some hosts and property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have coupons for local accommodations and attractions.
How to select the perfect vacation home in the Hilton Head area:
- Select a group leader, select your trip dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. 463 Captains Walk is a gorgeous villa with breathtaking views of the ocean. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. If not, contact the property management company before booking the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or costs could be applied to your invoice.
- If there's an individual Hilton Head beach you are enamored with, browse properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
Tips for a great stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would at home.
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. E-mail the rental manager immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a excellent time? Most rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
