Our top Hilton Head vacation rental home tips and tricks:

Money saving strategies:

  • Summer is high season in Hilton Head. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your group.
  • Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by choosing your vacation dates and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration you need. 463 Captains Walk is a gorgeous villa with breathtaking views of the ocean. has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before you book the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. .
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Advice for a wonderful stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Document any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if there is a dispute.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of problems.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
  • On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a great stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
