How to book the best Hilton Head vacation home experience:
Get the best value:
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Summer is the most expensive season in the Hilton Head area. Book your rental home in Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some owners offer discounts for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have discounts for nearby tours and attractions.
Make a plan and pick your prefect Hilton Head rental:
- Select your dates and maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Island gem with shared amenities, pond view & fast WiFi - near the beach has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible online. If not, reach out to the property owner before reserving your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what is optimal for your trip.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must book a pet-friendly vacation rental. Request specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
- Are you visiting for a single event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Know before you go:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
- Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a great resource to find the best local beaches.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a wonderful stay? Many rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
