Our top Rental home tips and tricks:
Finding your perfect vacation home:
- In the Hilton Head area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- To find the best value, consider shifting your family's Hilton Head vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Some hosts offer rate reductions for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines have discounts for local accommodations and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation dates, and select a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Sunset Rentals
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the property manager before booking the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the host about your furry family members before booking.
- If there's a specific Hilton Head destination you long to visit, look for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
More considerations for your visit:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of issues.
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are away, just like you would at home.
- During arrival, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great reviews to compel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your review and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
