Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
Getting the best rental home value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To get the best value, shift your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guides which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and choosing a perfectrental:
- Begin by choosing your a vacation week and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Sunset Rentals
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, contact the property owner before reserving your rental. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
- If there's a certain Hilton Head beach you are crazy about, look for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
- Some properties allow pets, but some do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the host about pets before booking.
Tips to have a smooth stay:
- Be sure you get the host's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. Store the host's information in your smartphone.
- Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors disrupting your life at home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected everything. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great time? Most rental websites make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
