Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect rental home experience:

When to reserve a Hilton Head rental & When to go:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To find the most suitable vacation home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Hilton Head restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts offer rate reductions for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers often offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have discounts for local shops and restaurants.

Make a plan and choose the best Hilton Head rental:

  • Start by having your group choose trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Modern, light-filled villa with 2 living areas, pool, easy beach access, & patio has 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property manager before reserving the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what is optimal for your trip.
  • If there's an individual Hilton Head beach you simply love, search for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a pet-friendly property. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners charge additional pet fees.

Additional considerations:

  • Put the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you are gone! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
