Our top Hilton Head vacation rental booking tips and tricks:

Cost saving strategies:

  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Hilton Head area. Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable properties.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
  • Booking websites often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for local tours and attractions.

Planning and choosing your prefect Hilton Head vacation home:

  • Start by selecting your trip dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Water-view townhome with pool & tennis access & on-site golf has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before you book the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what configuration is best for your group.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges applied to your agreement.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .

Have a great stay:

  • We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few concerns.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • To make sure that damages are not linked to your family's stay, note any problem areas during arrival. text the rental manager immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a fantastic time? Many rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
