Hilton Head rental property booking tips:

Get the most from your budget:

  • The earlier you can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
  • Summer months are high season in the Hilton Head area. Book your vacation home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Selecting and booking the best Hilton Head rental home:

  • Choose vacation dates and max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Beautifully Updated Home Just a Few Minutes Walk to the Beach! has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is usually accessible on booking websites. If not, email or call the property owner before you reserve your rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Does your group require specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking

More considerations:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
  • Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud visitors disrupting your life at home. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a excellent stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
