How to get the best rental home experience:
When to book a Hilton Head rental home & When to go:
- Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the best value, try changing your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
- Property management companies sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Selecting and booking the best Hilton Head vacation home:
- First and foremost, have your family agree to a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Spectacular Oceanview Condo w\/ Community Pool Near South Beach! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before reserving the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If your family is bringing pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Does your family require special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
Some things to know before you go:
- Take a copy of the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of difficulties.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Note any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a great resource to find the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually help. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did you have a terrific vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
