Tips to get the perfect Hilton Head rental experience:

When to go & When to book:

  • Summertime is high season in Hilton Head. Reserve your Hilton Head rental property in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some property managers offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have coupons for nearby shops and restaurants.

Finding the best rental home in Hilton Head:

  • Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Oceanfront condo with pools, hot tubs, WiFi, washer\/dryer, & central A\/C has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking pages. If not, email or call the property management company before you reserve the vacation home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what is best for your family.
  • Are you visiting for a specific attraction? If so, use a map search to browse nearby rentals.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Have a wonderful stay:

  • Be sure you get the owner's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
  • Document any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if damages are assessed.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of problems.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to drive future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
