Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Hilton Head rental experience:
When to book a Hilton Head rental & When to go:
- Summer is high season in the Hilton Head area. Book your rental in the Spring or Fall to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are reserved early. Reserving your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies typically offer customers an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Narrow your Search:
- Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Ocean-View Getaway with Shared Pool, Hot tub, Tennis, WiFi & Easy Walk to Beach has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking websites. Otherwise, email or call the host before you reserve the home. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you must reserve a pet-friendly property. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Note that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
Tips for your stay:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Record any damages to the property upon arrival, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, elevator or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents many difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your life at home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can often help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Lock your vacation home while you're out. Protect your property!
- On check-out day, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget any personal items. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent ratings to propel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
