Strategies to get the optimal vacation property experience:
When to visit Hilton Head & When to book:
- Booking in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guides which include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Choose a group leader, choose your vacation week, and select a spending budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. Comfortable villa with pool, hot tub, lagoon view & nearby beach access has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available online. Otherwise, email or call the property owner before booking the home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- Looking for special amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- During arrival, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, elevator or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and places you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
