How to book the best vacation rental experience:
Get the most from your rental budget:
- Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Some owners offer special rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area visitors guide magazines which include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to pick the perfect rental:
- Select vacation week and budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Nautical Dream at HHR 4323 has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is normally available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the host before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to determine which bed configuration is right for your group.
- If there's an individual Hilton Head destination you long to visit, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a rental that allows animals. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Additional considerations:
- Store the host's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- To make sure damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas during arrival. message the rental manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers bothering your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on great ratings to compel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
