How to get the best Hilton Head rental experience:

Finding the best rental value:

  • To find the best value, consider shifting your family's Hilton Head vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
  • The earlier you can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Some owners offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property management companies usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have money saving offers on local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Choosing the best rental in Hilton Head:

  • Select a group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Wonderful condo near beach with pool, free WiFi, private W/D, AC, & balcony has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, call the host before you book the home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds. You'll need to determine which bed configuration is best for your trip.
  • If there's a certain Hilton Head beach you love, browse homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or charges could be applied to your contract.

Have a great stay:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • During check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
  • Property managers are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be respectful. Often, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected everything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a great time? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
