Tricks and tips to get the very best Hilton Head rental home experience:

Getting the most from your budget:

  • To book the best rental within budget, we suggest reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

Planning and picking the perfectvacation home:

  • Choose your dates and budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Waterfront, dog-friendly condo at Shelter Cove with pool, deck & harbor view has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available online. If they are not listed, call the property owner before booking the vacation home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.

More tips for your visit:

  • Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Upon check-in, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of issues.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable visitors bothering your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected everything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great feedback to compel more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will will be grateful for your review find their best rental home. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
