How to get the best vacation property experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- Summer time is high season in the Hilton Head area. Book your rental property in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Often, rental management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guide magazines which include special deals, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to choose and book your Hilton Head rental home:
- Start by having your family decide on date ranges and a max budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Waterfront, dog-friendly condo at Shelter Cove with pool, deck & harbor view has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the host before booking the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what is best for your vacation family.
- If there's a certain Hilton Head destination you are enamored with, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or charges might be applied to your invoice.
Considerations for your stay:
- Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute is filed.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peace. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let crooks spoil your vacation.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a great time? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
