Strategies to get the optimal vacation property experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserve your vacation home in Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Some property managers offer rate reductions for veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides have deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Make a plan and pick the bestrental:
- Select your vacation dates and budget.
- Dog Friendly has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the property manager before booking the vacation property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your vacation group.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional fees or applied to your invoice.
- Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
During your stay:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would at home.
- During check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and places you would've never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to confirm you've collected all belongings. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and look for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on good reviews to compel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
