Tips and Tricks to get the best Hilton Head rental home experience:
Finding your perfect rental home:
- In the Hilton Head area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- To get the best value, try changing your group's vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer.
- Some owners offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies often offer renters an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Often, management companies supply Hilton Head area visitor guides which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
How to choose the best rental:
- Select a designated group leader, select your trip dates, and select a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Sunset Rentals
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before reserving your home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine what bed configuration is best for your group.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, search for a rental that allows animals. Get details on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a certain Hilton Head destination you long to visit, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
More considerations:
- Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of issues.
- Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during arrival. Contact the host immediately to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Re-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a great stay? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
