Tips and Tricks to get the best vacation property experience:
Sticking to your budget:
- Summer time is high season in the Hilton Head area. Book your rental property in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- In the Hilton Head area, The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Booking websites usually offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guides have money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Begin by selecting vacation dates and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. 2 Bedroom and 2 Bath Condo unit in Ocean Walk villas has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is generally accessible on booking pages. If not, call the property management company before reserving the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
- Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- Some properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about pets before booking.
More considerations:
- Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To make sure that damages aren't linked to your family's visit, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. Contact the rental manager right away to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great time? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
