Vacation rental home tips and tricks:

Find your best deal:

  • In the Hilton Head area, The sooner your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • To book the largest vacation home within budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Hilton Head attractions and restaurants. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Property managers usually offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local Hilton Head area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides have coupons for local accommodations, tours and attractions.

How to select the best vacation rental:

  • Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation week, and choose a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Snowbird-friendly golf getaway near the beach with pool, private deck, & W\/D has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is regularly accessible on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before reserving the property. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
  • If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners charge pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a certain Hilton Head beach you are enamored with, browse properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your desires.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • To make sure that no damages are attributed to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. Contact the host immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are a great resource to find the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
