Tricks and tips to get the best vacation home experience:

Get the most from your budget:

  • The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • To book the largest rental within your budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
  • Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guides which will include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

How to pick the best vacation rental:

  • Select a group leader, select your vacation week, and select a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Sunset Rentals
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often accessible on booking websites. If not, contact the host before booking your rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your trip.
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or costs might be applied to your contract.
  • If there's a specific Hilton Head beach you are crazy about, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

Have a great stay:

  • Be sure you get the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Record any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor. Often, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at departure. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a terrific time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
