Tricks and tips to get the best vacation property experience:
Getting the most from your rental home budget:
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer time is high season in Hilton Head. To get the best rental home for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at Hilton Head restaurants, beaches, and activities.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have coupons for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
How to pick the best rental home:
- Begin by selecting trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. 300 steps to the beach! - Pet Friendly Ranch Style House North Forest Beach has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible on booking websites. If not, email the host before you reserve the rental. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
Know before you go:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, stereo or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many problems.
- Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
- During check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
- Be respectful. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- When it's time to leave, complete a walk-through to make sure you did not forget anything. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to propel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
