Tips to get the best rental experience:

Get the best value:

  • Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is a good way to save on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • The sooner you can book, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Booking websites typically offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines contain discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Narrow your rental Search:

  • Start by having your group decide on trip dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Remodeled! Heated Oceanfront Pool with Hot Tub! Gated Property has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Hilton Head rentals search.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is regularly available on booking pages. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
  • Are you visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.

Considerations for your stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
  • Upon arrival, record any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're away! Don't let thieves ruin your holiday.
  • Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all personal items on check-out day. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a excellent vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for guests to provide comments. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
