Tips and Tricks for getting the best Hilton Head rental home experience:
When to book & When to go:
- Summer time is high season in Hilton Head. To get the largest rental home within your budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at your favorite restaurants and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Hilton Head visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guides contain discounts for nearby tours and attractions.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Great Ocean views, Oceanfront Heated Pool! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. If not, email or call the property manager before booking the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- If there's a particular Hilton Head attraction you crave, keep an eye out for rentals that are either close by, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Tips for a fantastic stay:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your .
- During arrival, make note of any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the fresh catch of the day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your vacation home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
