Booking the best Hilton Head rental experience:

When to go & When to reserve a rental home:

  • The sooner you can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are reserved early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • Book your rental home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
  • Some owners offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Hilton Head area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have money saving offers on local accommodations, tours and attractions.

Finding the perfect vacation rental:

  • Choose a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. The best of everything in this stunning ocean view villa. has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available online. If they are not listed, email the property management company before booking your home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, search for a property that allows animals. Request specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's a particular Hilton Head destination you long to visit, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .

Considerations for your stay:

  • Add the owner's contact information to your phone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Keep the property locked while you're out! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
  • During arrival, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental a final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
