Tricks and tips to get the best rental experience:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Book your vacation in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Some hosts offer discounts for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Look for your local Hilton Head visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Start by selecting your vacation dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family requires. Nicely Appointed Two Bedroom Villa with Lagoon Views! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is generally accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before you book the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what is best for your group.
- If there's an individual Hilton Head attraction you simply love, look for homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a rental that allows animals. Request details on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Know before you go:
- We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
- Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many concerns.
- Be respectful. Often, surrounding homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are away! Don't let crooks spoil your trip.
- Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a terrific stay? Most rental websites make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
