Hilton Head rental property booking tips and tricks:

Getting the best value:

  • The sooner your group can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental homes are booked early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • Book your Hilton Head vacation home in Fall or Spring months to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
  • Property management companies often offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have offers and deals for local tours and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • Start by choosing potential vacation weeks and a max budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Wonderfully Updated Two Bedroom Condominium with Ocean Views! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the host before reserving the rental. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Visiting for a single attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Advice for a fantastic stay:

  • Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your phone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents a lot of problems.
  • Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect your property!
  • To make certain damages are not linked to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the rental manager right away to record any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your home life. Employ the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would have never otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • On check-out day, complete a final walk-through to make sure you didn't leave anything behind. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on good ratings to drive future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
