Our top Hilton Head rental property booking tips:
Money saving strategies:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in the Hilton Head area. To get the largest rental within budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Spring or Fall. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Hilton Head vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Some hosts offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Hilton Head area travel guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Hilton Head visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Planning and picking the rightrental:
- First, have your group agree to a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your family needs. Charming Waterfront Getaway with Seasonal Pool & Hot Tub, Tennis, Beach Access has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking pages. If not, contact the property owner before you reserve your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your family is bringing pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's an individual Hilton Head beach you are crazy about, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
Some things to know before you go:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental property.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of problems.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
- At Check-in, make note of any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be respectful. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a great time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
